elmendorph green project
Thanks to an extremely generous one-to-one matching gift of $160,000 from a longtime supporter, Historic Red Hook has acquired the next door property, 5 Cherry Street – the first bold step toward a dynamic community campus featuring:
- A large central lawn for seasonal events, such as “Music-on-the-Green” concerts by the best musicians up and down the Hudson Valley;
- Accessible ground floor archives, revolving exhibits, makerspace, and a “Story Studio” for people to record their own family histories;
- New, collaborative programs such as “Farm-to-Table” heritage workshops with area farmers, chefs and restaurateurs, and "Hands On" workshops with skilled artisans on the historic preservation trades;
- Much, much, more!
As in the past, when all of Red Hook rallied round to save the Elmendorph from becoming a parking lot, we are confident that Red Hook once again will join together to realize this newest dream for Red Hook’s oldest community gathering space. We look forward to keeping you up-to-date and sharing all the ways you, your families, friends and neighbors can help.
