Exhibit Opening

Exhibit Opening at Historic Red Hook’s new StoryStudio. Alexander Gilson: From Property to Property Owner tells the story of Montgomery Place gardener, Alexander Gilson, an African-American slave, who after being freed, stayed on as head gardener, eventually opened his own business and is buried in the Methodist Burial Ground on Cherry Street. It includes an exhibition by students in a Bard College class about Gilson, a quilt about his life made by community quilters, and a display of historic garden artifacts and plants. Light refreshments will be served. Exhibit is open Memorial Day weekend (Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 11:00 – 3:00 p.m.) and runs through Labor Day. StoryStudio, 5 Cherry Street, adjacent to the Elmendorph Inn.
