The Halloween Tavern Trail: Spooky Stories from Old Dutchess

Due to limited seating, RSVP is required. See form below.

Join the County Historian for the traditional Spooky Season installment of the Tavern Trail! As always for this event, we'll be in the basement dining area of Fosters, which is accessible only by stairs. But it does offer a certain crypt-ic atmosphere appropriate to the season.

Last year, we explored the History of Ghost Stories in Dutchess. This year, Dutchess County Historian Will Tatum will share a carefully curated selection of stories drawn from old history publications, including the infamous 1880s Smith History of Dutchess, where the line between fact, fiction, and the supernatural was blurry indeed. As always, your host will offer his own brand of commentary on these tales, and might even share some of his own spooky experiences from twelve years of wandering through the county's oldest sections.

Seating is extremely limited and pre-registration is required. We are limited to a maximum of 45 attendees for this program. RSVPs will be held until 5 minutes before start time, at which point we will open up for general admission on a first-come, first-served basis.

This event is FREE and Open to the Public. The event will accept and encourage donations to its partner organization, Historic Red Hook.

For those looking to make dinner reservations, call the restaurant at (845) 876-8052.We will be wrapped by 7 PM.

The Dutchess County Historic Tavern Trail brings history and local cuisine together, while introducing the community to iconic locales. The Tavern Trail is a collaborative endeavor between the Dutchess County Department of History, local historical societies, and signature food and beverage industry partners to create an innovative program that highlights the county’s rich history. Each installment of the program is held at a different historic location and includes a brief presentation on an engaging episode of the local past.

County Historian William P. Tatum III said, “The Dutchess County Historic Tavern Trail highlights many of our iconic buildings and the history contained in our epic landscape. These programs are a fun way to explore the links between history, cuisine and local culture that make our area such a vibrant place.”
