Dr. Sellers’s talk will discuss Native land-use patterns, and the ways Dutch colonists responded to their new homes by adjusting their own activities and modifying the environments around them.
An Associate Professor of History at the University of Mary Washington in Virginia, Jason R. Sellers is a cultural and environmental historian of 17th-and 18th-century North America interested in landscapes and bodies. He has published on the interactions of Hudson Valley Indians and European colonists, and is currently working with the Rappahannock Indians of Virginia on several projects related to the tribe’s history across the 20th century.
